I liked this one a lot. The imagery is beautifully written, very vivid and descriptive. The concept is very neat. I also enjoyed the fact that all of these books, while seemingly unrelated, are all taking place in the same town. I hope that this continues and that the town becomes subtly further explored in the various short stories. This one took me by surprise the most and I recommend this!
This story was quite a trip! I wasn't sure where the author was taking my imagination but I sure appreciated the journey so far.
The Painterly is one of those stories you want to keep reading and don't want to put down. Definitely made my flight home when I was traveling go by quickly!
This was a fun read. I really enjoyed the plot and characters. The author uses beautiful descriptive language throughout and gives the reader a neat unexpected twist to one of the characters.
The scenes when John began to find inspiration for his painting were my favorite and at one point I even felt the hairs raising upon my arms. To get ‘goosebumps’ from a short story isn’t something I can say I’ve experienced before.
Considering it’s a short story, I’m quite impressed with how many twists and turns there are – all while still allowing the story to flow smoothly and not overwhelming the reader with too much at once. The only thing that I wish was different about this story is how the cliffhanger at the end is executed – I think It’s a bit too abrupt and I was really interested into what John was about to experience but, I suppose on the other hand, that’s what the author intended to keep the reader guessing. Regardless, I’d have to say that “The Painterly” is my favorite work that I’ve read by the author so far.
A thought-provoking short story that has a way of drawing you in by using vivid image descriptions and multi-faceted emotions we all feel and hope to feel more of.
Vivid and unexpected. The author has a way of transporting you into the story with the beautiful image descriptions. The twist in the book is something I never expected. Absolutely loved this book.
